The Judge Alexander Williams, Jr. Center for Education, Justice & Ethics (Judge AW Center) is honored to partner with Cross Street Partners and The Beloved Community Services Corporation in the revitalization of West Baltimore. The historic Henry Highland Garnet School (PS103) transformed into the Justice Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center, celebrating the legacy of Justice Marshall and other Civil Rights leaders from Upton while providing community services, education, and resources in this historically underserved neighborhood. As the anchor tenant, the Judge AW Center will bring applied research, community-based educational programming, and a public forum to drive solutions for Baltimore’s systemic challenges.
In addition, we are excited to launch the Community Invested Violence Intervention Collaborative (CIVIC) Baltimore Initiative at the Justice Thurgood Marshall Center. This initiative will combine applied academic research, youth engagement, violence intervention, health advocacy, and ethical public leadership education. With a dynamic speaker series, gun violence intervention research, juvenile diversion programming, and social justice education, the Center will serve as a catalyst for community-driven change, working in partnership with, for, and by West Baltimore’s leaders.
