In 2021, Judge Williams chaired the Prince George's County Re-Entry Advisory Board. Under his leadership, he provided recommendations to improve the existing re-entry process. The final report was released and published for public viewing.
The Judge AW Center staff worked with Judge Williams to examine how to improve access to mental health treatment. To develop this report which was shared with the full Re-Entry Advisory Board, interviews with Guy Merritt, Acting Deputy Director at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections, Tiffany Russel, the Project Director of Mental Health and Justice Partnerships at PEW Charitable Trusts, and Michelle Gourdine, Interim Chief Medical Officer and SVP Population Health and Primary Care of University of Maryland Medical System, were conducted. Their insights in combination with data sources and a variety of other reports allowed for credible recommendations to be made to the board.
The Prince George’s County Council established the Re-Entry Advisory Board with Council Resolution 49-2019. The Prince George’s County Re-Entry Advisory Board will determine, evaluate, implement a comprehensive Re-Entry Program and re-entry services in the County to service formerly incarcerated persons attempting to acclimate back into society.
