On Maryland Today: Dr. Joseph Richardson Speaks at 120 Initiative on Gun Violence Consortium

Hero Image

“Many of the factors (that contribute to gun violence) are further upstream,” said Joseph Richardson, the Joel and Kim Feller Endowed Professor of African American studies and Anthropology.

The 120 Initiative on Gun Violence, a group of experts from Washington D.C. that promote anti-violence education and anti-gun violence policy and programming, held an inaugural regional conference on gun violence education. Dr. Joseph Richardson, Joel & Kim Feller Professor of African American Studies and Anthropology, was featured on Maryland Today, alongside President Darryll Pines, to speak about the multiple factors stretched into gun violence and its adverse effect on communities.

As an interventionist in Hospital-based violence intervention programs (HVIP), Richardson studies the roots and consequences of community violence primarily on young Black men. Richardson reviews community violence programming on its ability to provide psychosocial services to trauma-induced survivors of gun and community violence.

Where you see wrong or inequality or injustice, speak out, because this is your country. This is your democracy. Make it. Protect it. Pass it on.
