On June 19, 2023, Hon. Judge Alexander Williams Jr., Executive Director and Retired U.S. District Court judge, was awarded the President Joseph R. Biden Lifetime Achievement Award for the 2023 Juneteenth Historic Celebration located at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church.
Appointed by President Clinton in 1994, Williams was awarded for his dedication in public service and civil rights with extensive experience over 6,000 civil litigation cases and over 1,000 federal criminal cases.
In 2003, The President’s Lifetime Achievement Award was established by executive order by President George W. Bush for individuals who have volunteered more than 4,000 hours of service to communities across the country. Created three years past 9/11, The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes the service and civic contributions of Americans to their local communities and overall nation. This award remains to be the highest honor in the President’s Volunteer Service Award system.
