Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
From the Judge Alexander Williams Jr. Center for Education, Justice & Ethics
This past Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we reflect on the profound legacy of a leader who challenged the nation to rise to its highest ethical and legal ideals. Dr. King’s unwavering commitment to justice, grounded in the principles of equality and moral integrity, continues to guide and inspire our work at the Judge Alexander Williams Jr. Center for Education, Justice & Ethics.
Dr. King understood that the law must be a force for fairness and equity, not oppression, and he called upon all of us to work toward a society where justice is applied consistently, without prejudice or partiality. His belief that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” underscores our mission to promote ethical leadership and equal justice under the law.
At the Center, we honor Dr. King’s vision by addressing systemic inequities and fostering a deeper understanding of justice through education, advocacy, and action. Through programming at PS103 and the Social Justice Boot Camp, we work to cultivate a generation of ethical leaders and advocates who are committed to ensuring that the promise of justice is fulfilled for everyone.
As we remember Dr. King’s sacrifices and achievements, let us recommit ourselves to the principles he championed: fairness, accountability, and the pursuit of justice rooted in ethics. Let us also remember that achieving equal justice is not the work of a single day but an enduring effort that demands courage, persistence, and integrity.
Dr. King once said, “The time is always right to do what is right.” May we carry this truth forward, striving to ensure that the moral and legal frameworks of our society uphold the dignity and rights of all people.
