Today, October 25, 2023, as part of an historic initiative takeoff, Bowie State University hosted an event titled, "Eliminating Mass Incarceration in Maryland," starring the Maryland Equitable Justice Collaborative (MEJC) as part of the movement for justice reform in the state of Maryland. The event was located at Bowie State University. 

This historic initiative is tied to the Maryland Equitable Justice Collaborative(MEJC) --a new partnership between the Office of the Attorney General, Office of the Public Defender, The Judge Alexander Williams, Jr. Center for Education, Justice & Ethics at University of Maryland College Park, and the Institute for Restorative Justice and Practices at Bowie State University. Its goal is to reduce the incarceration rate of Black men and other marginalized groups in Maryland prisons and jails.
